Scarlett Johansson linked to Creature from the Black Lagoon remake

April 10, 2015 by Gary Collinson

According to The Tracking Board, Universal Pictures is eyeing Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Age of Ultron) for a role in its Universal Monster shared universe, with the site reporting that she has been offered the female lead in a remake of Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Directed by Jack Arnold and released in 1954, Creature from the Black Lagoon told the story of a group of scientists who discover a human/fish hybrid during an expedition to the Amazon. The new remake will apparently be produced by Gary Ross, Robin Bissell, Marc Abraham and Eric Newman, from a screenplay by Ross, Jeff Blitz, Tedi Sarafian and Paul Schering.

Universal launched its shared monster universe last year with Dracula Untold, and has The Mummy set for June 24th 2016. An as-yet-untitled release is slated for April 27th, 2017, which you’d have to assume would be this project if casting is underway.
