Ant-Man tops U.S. box office with second-lowest opening for a Marvel Studios movie, earns $114 million worldwide

July 19, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Marvel’s latest superhero adventure Ant-Man opened in cinemas worldwide this past Friday, dethroning Minions in the States and continuing Marvel’s perfect streak of number one domestic debuts with $58 million. Internationally, it added a further $56 million from 37 markets, for a global opening weekend of $114 million.

Ant-Man’s domestic debut is the second-lowest for Marvel Studios, beating out the $55 million opening weekend of The Incredible Hulk but falling short of the $65 million posted by Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor. However, it also has the lowest budget of any Marvel Cinematic Universe entry at a reported $130 million.
