Idris Elba joins Enterprise crew for Star Trek Beyond Omaze campaign

July 14, 2015 by Justin Cook

A new video posted by Omaze for charity has confirmed that actor Idris Elba will be playing a role in 2016’s Star Trek Beyond.

In the video, Elba appears with his co-stars from the film, as they explain how Star Trek fans can win a walk-on role in Beyond by donating to charity. It’s all for a campaign entitled Star Trek: To Boldly Go, which benefits nine global causes, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Camp Sunshine. The organizations were chosen entirely by the film’s cast.

For months, The Wire and Pacific Rim actor had been rumored for the third Star Trek movie, and although his exact role is still unknown, many say he will most likely play a villain.

Star Trek Beyond is set for release on July 8th, 2016. Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6) will direct the film, with a script written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung. Returning cast members include Chris Pine as James Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Pegg as Scotty, Zoë Saldana as Uhura, Karl Urban as Bones, John Cho as Sulu and Anton Yelchin as Chekov. Kingsman: The Secret Service actress Sofia Boutella has also signed on for a role in the film as well.
