Ivan Reitman shoots down talk of second Ghostbusters movie

July 30, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Yesterday we brought you news about a second upcoming Ghostbusters movie, with screenwriter Drew Pearce (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) revealing that he’d finished the script for a instalment from directors Joe and Anthony Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and producer Ivan Reitman, who of course helmed the original two films.

Well, Reitman has now issued a statement, shooting down the report: “There has been a lot of excitement recently about what is happening with the Ghostbusters franchise. As the producer of the new Ghostbusters film, I feel the need to clarify. There is only one new Ghostbusters movie and that is the Paul Feig directed version coming next July, presently filming and going fantastically. The rest is just noise.”

Somewhat bizarrely, Reitman himself contributed to this noise, revealing back in March that the Russos and Pearce would be working on a Ghostbusters movie following Paul Feig’s female-led reboot.

So, Ghostbusters fans, for the time being, you’ll have to make do with Paul Feig’s reboot, which is set for release on July 22nd 2016 and stars Kristin Wiig (Bridesmaids), Melissa McCarthy (Spy), Leslie Jones (Saturday Night Live), Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live), Chris Hemsworth (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Andy Garcia (Goodfellas), Michael K. Williams (Boardwalk Empire), Matt Walsh (Veep), Cecily Strong (Saturday Night Live) and Neil Casey (Saturday Night Live).
