Bill Murray to make a cameo appearance in Paul Feig’s female-led Ghostbusters reboot

August 9, 2015 by Gavin Logan

UPDATE: The story has now been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter…

Whether you like it or not Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot is definitely happening and is deep into production as you read this. The Bridesmaids director has been vocal about the criticism towards his new approach and in the past month or so he’s been revealing images from the set on his official Twitter account.

Last month we got confirmation that Dan Aykroyd had already filmed a small cameo appearance alongside leading lady Kristen Wiig and now it looks like another original might be returning to make an appearance.

According to SuperheroHype, Murray – who starred as Dr. Peter Venkman in the 1984 original and the 1989 sequel – was spotted heading to the set yesterday morning after arriving in Boston on the 6th. While there has been no confirmation on the images, the chance that Murray could appear doesn’t seem outside the realms of reality as he’s mentioned in the past that he’d be up for it.

Despite rumours about another upcoming Ghostbusters flick possibly featuring the original team from the Russo brothers and writer Drew Pearce, original director and current producer Ivan Reitman has recently debunked the rumours as “just noise”.

So are well excited about a Bill Murray cameo? It’s highly unlikely that he’ll be returning as Venkman so who would we like to see him play? An ageing ghost perhaps?

Ghostbusters is set for release on July 15th, 2016 and will be directed by Paul Feig (Spy) with a cast that includes Kristin Wiig (Bridesmaids), Melissa McCarthy (Spy), Leslie Jones (Saturday Night Live), Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live), Chris Hemsworth (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Andy Garcia (Goodfellas), Michael K. Williams (Boardwalk Empire), Matt Walsh (Veep), Cecily Strong (Saturday Night Live) and Neil Casey (Saturday Night Live).
