F. Gary Gray, Louis Leterrier and Adam Wingard rumoured to direct Fast & Furious 8

October 6, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

More news on the next film in the Fast & Furious franchise, with reports from both The Wrap and The Hollywood Reporter about who may be stepping into the director’s chair for the new installment.

The Wrap have reported that Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray is in pole position to take over from Fast 7‘s James Wan, who has moved away from the film to direct Warner Brothers and DC’s Aquaman.

Straight Outta Compton was another in a long line of massive successes for Universal Pictures, who are behind the Fast franchise, and see Gray as the ideal replacement. The director has brought us such films as The Italian Job, The Negotiator and A Man Apart, with the latter starring Vin Diesel.

Insiders are rumoured to have said that producers Diesel and Neal Moritz are to decide between Gray and other directors whose identities remain unknown.

That said, THR are also reporting that they know the identity of the other filmmakers up against Gray for the job: first, there is Louis Leterrier, who has directed such films as Now You See Me and The Incredible Hulk; secondly, there is Adam Wingard, the acclaimed horror director responsible for such films as The Guest and You’re Next.

Whoever is chosen to take on the eigth film in the series is soon to be announced either way, with the film set for release on April 14th, 2017.
