The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 tracking lowest opening weekend of the franchise

October 29, 2015 by Gary Collinson

With four weeks to go until its release, box office analysts are suggesting that The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 is tracking a domestic opening weekend of $121.5 million, just below that of the previous instalment, Mockingjay – Part 1, which debuted with $121.9 million last November.

Should the box office tracking prove accurate, Mockingjay – Part 2 would also fall short of the domestic opening weekend of the first movie, which debuted with $152.5 million, and Catching Fire, which posted a franchise high of $158.1 million.

So much for it being more anticipated than Star Wars: The Force Awakens…

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 is directed by Francis Lawrence and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Willow Shields, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Julianne Moore, Mahershala Ali, Natalie Dormer, Wes Chatham, Elden Henson and Evan Ross. The film will open on November 19th in the UK and November 20th in the US.
