Deadpool denied release in China over its graphic violence, nudity and bad language

January 18, 2016 by Gary Collinson

20th Century Fox’s box office ambitions for Deadpool have taken a bit of a blow, with news that the X-Men spinoff has been denied a release in China owing to its graphic violence, nudity and bad language.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that China’s censorship authorities often work alongside the Hollywood studios to create “cleaned up” versions of their R-rated movies, but in the case of Deadpool this wasn’t possible as the censored version would have led to plot problems – which probably spells bad news for those fans petitioning for a PG-13 cut.

Deadpool is set for release on February 10th in the UK and February 12th in the States and sees Ryan Reynolds reprising the role of the Merc with a Mouth alongside T.J. Miller (Transformers: Age ofExtinction) as Weasel, Morena Baccarin (Gotham) as Copycat, Gina Carano (Fast & Furious 6) asAngel Dust, Ed Skrein (Game of Thrones) as Ajax, Stefan Kapicic (24)  as Colossus, Leslie Uggams (Roots) as Blind Al and newcomer Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
