Batman v Superman tracking $100 million to $140 million domestic opening weekend

February 26, 2016 by Gary Collinson

With tickets for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice set to go on sale this coming Monday, Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros.’ superhero ensemble is tracking a domestic opening weekend ranging from $100 million to $140 million.

The record for a March debut is $152.5 million, set by The Hunger Games, while Disney’s Alice in Wonderland holds second place with $116.1 million. Dawn of Justice opens on Good Friday and will benefit from school and college closures, both on its opening day and Easter Monday.

For comparison, 20th Century Fox kicked off the superhero season earlier this month with the R-rated Deadpool, which pulled in $132.4 million over its opening three-day weekend and $152.2 million across four days. Although it should be noted that analysts were predicting a $55 million debut for Deadpool, so obviously these projections can be – and often are – wildly inaccurate.

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.
