Agent Carter Season 2 Episode 10 Review – ‘Hollywood Ending’

March 3, 2016 by Amy Richau

Amy Richau reviews the season finale of Agent Carter season 2…

The season finale of Agent Carter, “Hollywood Ending”, starts 60 seconds after the previous episode ended. It’s really too bad that ABC didn’t choose to air episodes 9 and 10 together as a two-hour grand finale instead of packaging episodes six & seven (which worked out OK) and eight & nine (which was awkward and didn’t work much at all).

But let’s get back to episode 10. “Hollywood Ending” wraps up a lot of loose ends and gives the large supporting cast all a little screen time. It’s not an episode that offered much originality or surprises, but it was entertaining and satisfying to see Agent Carter have a happy ending in both her professional and personal life.

Of course the central storyline of “Hollywood Ending” was the battle between Whitney Frost . . . and everyone else in the Agent Carter cast. Even Frost’s boyfriend, Joseph Manfredi, goes to Howard Stark for help to get the old Whitney back. Speaking of Howard Stark, I do wish this character would have shown up in more episodes this season. Seeing scenes with Stark, Jarvis, and Carter bantering together make a lot of the other scenes in the show fall a bit flat. Add in Mrs. Jarvis to the mix and you’ve got an even better show in my opinion.

In the end “Hollywood Ending” pulls together the skills and strengths of Peggy’s group of SSR agents and scientists to outwit Whitney Frost and return zero matter to the mysterious realm where it came from. The audience gets some answers about the future of several recurring characters and offers a satisfying, if not entirely surprising, resolution to Carter’s love triangle between scientist Wilkes and Agent Sousa.

Of course there is a cliffhanger scene at the end of “Hollywood Ending”, but everything else is wrapped up so nicely it appears the producers of Agent Carter were preparing for this being potentially a series finale as well as a season finale. I’d like to see a season three of Agent Carter with more Howard Stark, Ana Jarvis, and Rose. But if this is the end of Agent Carter, it has been a very fun ride.
