Octavia Spencer joins Guillermo del Toro Cold War movie

March 19, 2016 by Gavin Logan

Guillermo del Toro has been linked with a bunch of movies in the last year or so. So much so that it’s sometimes difficult to keep track of which projects are happening and which are not. However one movie that’s definitely in his foreseeable future is the Cold War drama that he’s making with Fox Searchlight.

Variety are reporting that the currently untitled project’s first major casting acquisition is Octavia Spencer (The Divergent Series). Little is known yet of the role the actress – who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2011 for The Help – will play but the movie is being described as an “otherworldly love story, set against the backdrop of Cold War-era America circa 1963” They also state that the mystery project is a “top priority” for Del Toro.

Del Toro is currently working hard on the screenplays for Pacific Rim: Maelstrom and his stop motion adaptation of Pinocchio, which he will also be directing and producing. Depending on other projects the movie is set to begin shooting sometime in the summer.
