After smashing the August box office opening record last weekend, Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad managed to fend off competition from the adult animated comedy Sausage Party to hold on to top spot domestically, but much like the previous instalment of the DC Extended Universe, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it suffered a rather steep drop.
The David Ayer-directed supervillain team-up grossed $47.7 million – down 67.3% from last weekend – while Sausage Party followed in second place with $33.6 million. Suicide Squad is now up to $222.8 million on home soil, and has grossed a solid $465.3 million worldwide so far after just twelve days.
Will Suicide Squad have enough legs to reach the reported $750 – $800 million mark that it is said to require to turn a profit for Warner Bros.? Or will the lack of a release in China cost it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
