The Lost Boys heading to The CW for TV adaptation

Deadline is reporting that The CW is looking replace the concluding The Vampire Diaries by snapping up the rights to a TV series based upon Joel Schumacher’s 1987 cult classic The Lost Boys.

The series has been developed by Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars, iZombie) and is envisioned for a seven-season anthology style run, with each season spanning a decade of a 70 year story whereby the setting, human characters and antagonist will change from season to season.

The Lost Boys followed two brothers who move to Santa Carla in California and find themselves taking on a gang of vampires. The cast includes Jason Patrick, Corey Haim, Corey Feldman, Kiefer Sutherland, Diane Wiest, Jamie Gertz and Edward Herrmann. It was followed by two forgettable straight-to-video sequels in 2008 and 2010.
