Comic Book Review – The Fix #6

October 15, 2016 by Emma Withington

Emma Withington reviews The Fix #6…

Roy investigates a high-profile murder.

‘Ever since the big testicle bust at LAX’, Mac and Pretzels are getting along just fine. For Roy, the death of Elaina set him on the path to glory – he met the Mayor and became the lead on her high-profile murder case. This was the real thing, the big time. Until his moment on the podium was interrupted by a lead…someone Roy himself had sent into Elaina’s house, that fateful night.

This month, Roy’s entangled web of corruption continues to weave. In the previous year Roy had met a man called Lester Wells from ‘Leerer Media‘, a blogger who scavenges used items from celebrity pads and auctions them off for a small fortune. Roy, naturally, answered opportunities’ knock and outsourced a meth head from ‘Meth Addict Fight Club’ to assist him in this new business venture…‘The first rule of Meth Addict Fight Club is tell everyone you know about Meth Addict Fight Club’. The man Roy chased down in The Fix #5 was his meth-man: Matt. Matt had raided Elaina’s house on the night of her murder; had he killed her too? One thing we do know, Elaina’s killers were looking for her stuffed bear…

The Fix #6 is a good issue for Roy fans, with Mac making fleeting appearances – his task to bond with Pretzels has been successful, and so he waits in the wings. However, with The Fix‘s many twists and turns, It’s not likely that Mac will remain in this position for long; his time to shine is on the horizon. We are introduced to a new character who, wrongly, idolises Roy – he has a heart-shaped locket and everything. The function he will play in the future is as yet unknown and Josh’s associate remains out of play. However, it seems everything is in position for new revelations in the next issue. In The Fix #6, the crass is turned up to 11 and ends on a rather prominent punchline, which is one of the most memorable The Fix moments so far.

It is futile to assume the direction which The Fix will take, it’s about as predictable as the English weather. Nick Spencer and Steve Lieber have copious amounts of tricks up their sleeves and they’re not done yet…

Rating: 9/10
