Capcom to focus on reviving dormant franchises

December 5, 2016 by Jordan Jones

When thinking of developers that are sitting on a veritable wealth of under-utilized franchises, Capcom comes close to the top of that list. While we may be getting the next entry in the Resident Evil series next month, and Capcom has just announced Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, there are a number of series that fans wish Capcom would bring back. Well, fans may soon get that wish. Today, the publisher posted a press-release talking about Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, and included this at the end:

“In addition to regular major title releases each fiscal year, Capcom is currently focused on reviving series that have not had new entries recently, or otherwise dormant IP. Beginning with MARVEL VS. CAPCOM: INFINITE, a return for the series following a five-year hiatus, Capcom looks to enhance its corporate value even further by utilizing its library of rich contents.”

So what series could they mean? Well, the first thought that comes to mind is the Mega Man franchise. In the wake of Keiji Inafune’s disappointing Might No. 9, it would be a great time for Capcom to step up, and do the blue-bomber justice. What about Bionic Commando, Ghosts and Goblins, or the Onimusha series? It would be incredible to have another installment in the Dino Crisis franchise. With a possible return to form with Resident Evil 7, it looks like Capcom might be making a comeback.
