M. Night Shyamalan’s Tales from the Crypt delayed over rights issues

December 27, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Back in January it was announced that M. Night Shyamalan was in development on a reboot of the cult horror anthology series Tales from the Crypt, which would serve as the centrepiece of a new horror programming block on TNT.

Since then, we’ve heard a few comments from Shyamalan about his plans (including the inclusion of the Crypt Keeper and the fact it will adapt stories from the original EC Comics), although the project seemed to be taking its time coming together, leading to a recent rumour that the network had scrapped the show due to budgetary concerns.

Well, TNT has now issued a response to those rumours, stating that it does intend on moving forward with the reboot, although rights issues have led to a delay:

“The underlying rights to this classic, vintage property are complicated,” reads the statement (via CinemaBlend). “TNT and others have been pursuing a solution for more than a year, with significant progress being made. We look forward to the potential for further active development of this valuable franchise once the clearance process is fully resolved.”

Recent talk from the network has suggested that Tales from the Crypt could get underway in late 2017, so let’s hope the rights issues can be cleared up.
