Star Wars: Episode VIII named 2017’s most anticipated movie

With 2016 almost over and attention now shifting to 2017’s exciting line-up of movies, ticket site Fandango has been polling its visitors as to the most anticipated films of the next twelve months, and it will come as absolutely no surprise to hear that Star Wars: Episode VIII tops the list.

The follow-up to Star Wars: The Force Awakens came out on top ahead Marvel sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in second place, while the top ten had plenty of superhero movie representation with Wonder Woman, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Justice League and Logan. No love for Thor: Ragnarok?

Here’s the top ten most anticipated movies of the year, according to Fandango:

1. Star Wars: Episode VIII (Dec. 15)
2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (May 5)
3. Beauty and the Beast (March 17)
4. Wonder Woman (June 2)
5. Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7)
6. Justice League (Nov. 17)
7. The Fate of the Furious (April 14)
8. Fifty Shades Darker (Feb. 10)
9. Logan (March 3)
10. Despicable Me 3 (June 30)

The site also polled its visitors about their most-anticipated actors, actresses, comic book characters, comedies and horrors:

1. Emma Watson (Beauty and the Beast)
2. Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: Episode VIII)
3. Jennifer Lawrence (Red Sparrow)
4. Halle Berry (Kingsman: The Golden Circle)
5. Charlize Theron (The Fate of the Furious)

Most anticipated actor

1. Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2)
2. Dwayne Johnson (Jumanji)
3. Hugh Jackman (Logan)
4. Idris Elba (Thor: Ragnarok)
5. Chris Hemsworth (Thor: Ragnarok)
