ABC clarifies previous comments on a live-action Star Wars TV show

January 19, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Back in August ABC sent Star Wars fans into a bit of a frenzy when network executive Channing Dungey appeared to confirm that talks were underway with Lucasfilm about bringing the galaxy far, far away to the small screen.

As it turned out, it seemed that Dunning has spoken a little too soon as ABC Television President Ben Sherwood played down the report, stating that Lucasfilm has “a lot of movies to make” before we can start thinking about a TV show, and now Dungey has reiterated those comments in an interview with EW.

“That was sort of a conversation at TCA that got blown way out of proportion. We have had some conversations in general about wanting to find a way to bring something from the Lucas Star Wars Universe to ABC, but that’s far into the future. The focus at the moment for Lucas is on the current stuff that they’re doing on the film side and then, of course, they do have the stuff that they are doing on XD.”

So it looks like we’ve got a while to wait then. Still, we do have Star Wars: Episode VIII, Star Wars: Episode IX, the Han Solo movie, an as-yet-untitled Anthology movie, Star Wars Rebels, and a brand new animated series to tide us over…
