Jake Gyllenhaal reuniting with Life director for The Anarchists vs ISIS

March 26, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Fresh from their collaboration on the sci-fi horror Life, actor Jake Gyllenhaal and director Daniel Espinosa are to reunite for The Anarchists vs ISIS, based upon Seth Harp’s Rolling Stone article which explores a team of American volunteers fighting alongside the Kurdish militia the YPG against ISIS in Syria.

“Jake and I are thrilled to partner with Daniel Espinosa on Seth Harp’s daring story,” said producer Riva Marker of Ninestories. “Thematically, we’re often attracted to material about the search for identity, especially in a world where it’s become easier to feel less and less connected. Seth’s story is about people who abandon everything that’s familiar as a means to connect in the most brutal of circumstances. Daniel is wonderfully collaborative and so passionate about this material. We are eager to start working with a screenwriter together.”

“In a very short time under the leadership of Jake and Riva, Ninestories has become an incredibly exciting production company,” added Michel Litvak of Bold Films, who will co-produce the film. “Their vision for fresh and provocative material coupled with brilliant filmmakers like Daniel Espinosa aligns perfectly with Bold’s mandate.”

Life is out now in cinemas, and you can read our reviews of the film here, along with our exclusive interview with director Daniel Epinosa here.
