Sony’s Venom movie to shoot in the fall, described as “action horror sci-fi”

March 27, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Earlier this month it was announced that Sony has dusted off its plans for a Venom solo movie, setting the Spider-Man spinoff for release on October 5th 2018.

Now, according to production tracking site My Entertainment World, Sony has set a Fall 2017 filming start date for the project, which is being described as an “action horror sci-fi”.

The script for Venom has been written by Scott Rosenberg (Jumanji) and Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), and with the studio said to be fast-tracking the project, we should probably expect to hear news on a director and cast in the next few months.

Although there has been no official word from either Sony or Marvel at this point, it is expected that Venom (and the recently announced Black Cat and Silver Sable spinoff) will not be connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or the upcoming web-slinger reboot Spider-Man: Homecoming.
