Original Power Rangers stars share their issues with the big screen reboot

April 25, 2017 by Robert Kojder

This past weekend at C2E2 (an absolute blast of a comic convention that yours truly actually attended this year), Walter Jones and David Yost (the former Black and Blue Power Rangers respectively) were interviewed on the live stage and discussed the Power Rangers reboot and some gripes that they each had with the film.

Keep in mind while reading the below quotes that they were not completely hateful of the movie and praised R.J. Cyler as Billy along with the decision to essentially make him an autistic superhero.

Walter Jones expressed disappointment that “they changed the characters around a little bit because I wanted Zack to be with his kido because Hip Hop Kido was a really important element of who I was on Power Rangers. I think if they would have added that then there could have been some parkour and there could have been so many other elements to that character that it would have been awesome.”

David Yost also took issue with the morphin’ presentation, saying: “The only thing I care about progression wise when they do a sequel and they morph they better bring it and they better say ‘It’s Morphin Time.’ When we said, ‘It’s morphing time!,’ it was like, ‘Shit’s about to go down;’ when they said it in the movie it was so lackadaisical I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?’”

Let us know below in the comments if you agree or disagree with these thoughts…

Saban’s POWER RANGERS follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove — and the world — is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers.

Power Rangers stars Becky G as the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, R.J. Cyler as the Blue Ranger, Bryan Cranston as Zordon, Bill Hader as Alpha 5 and Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa.
