Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 passes the half billion mark at the box office

May 11, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Having debuted in the U.S. this past weekend to $145 million following its international rollout a week earlier, Marvel’s cosmic superhero sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has now passed the $500 million mark at the global box office, having earned $175.9 million in North America and $325.8 million internationally for a total to date of $501.7 million.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now the twelfth instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to pass the half billion dollar mark at the box office, and then tenth in a row to do so. This coming weekend will see it overtake Ant-Man ($519.3 million) and Iron Man ($585.2 million), while it’s also likely going to challenge Iron Man 2 ($623.9 million), Thor: The Dark World ($644.6 million) and potentially even Doctor Strange ($677.7 million).
