Geoff Johns says “heart, humor, hope, heroics and optimism” are now the focus of the DCEU

June 14, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Following the mixed reception to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the dark, dour tone of the DC Extended Universe, it was widely reported that Warner Bros. was planning on a change in direction for the DCEU, coinciding with the appointment of Geoff Johns and Jon Berg as co-chiefs of DC Films.

The studio has already scored a critical and commercial success with Wonder Woman, the first film out of the gate following this recalibration, and now Geoff Johns has revealed to The Wrap where the focus now lies for future DC movies.

“Get to the essence of the character and make the movies fun,” said Johns with regards to the new approach from DC. “Just make sure that the characters are the characters with heart, humor, hope, heroics, and optimism at the base.”

That philosophy definitely seemed to work for Wonder Woman, and it will be interesting to see what kind of reception November’s Justice League receives assuming it too sticks to the new formula…
