The Mummy tops studio TV ad spending

June 6, 2017 by Samuel Brace

The Mummy has seen more investment in TV ad spending this week than any other movie.

With substantial hits in theatres right now such as Wonder Woman, other high profile movies still playing, and even more to come, it’s interesting to see that Universal has claimed the top spot for TV ad spending for The Mummy.

The data comes from the TV advertising attention analytics company iSpot.tv, who say that an estimated media value of $7.83 million has been spent on the Tom Cruise led reboot for 1,394 ad airings across 49 networks in the U.S.

Behind The Mummy in second place is Paramount’s Transformers: The Last Knight which had 948 airings across 33 networks, with an estimated media value of $5.99 million. Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie ($4.72 million), Cars 3 ($4.53 million) and Wonder Woman ($3.64 million) round out the top five.

So Universal are certainly going all out in promoting their latest effort, which isn’t all that shocking considering they are hoping the movie kick-starts their new Dark Universe franchise. They will of course be looking for a big start at the box office upon the film’s upcoming release.

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

The Mummy is set for release on June 9th, 2017, with Alex Kurtzman directing a cast that includes Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation), Annabelle Wallis (Annabelle), Jake Johnson (New Girl), Courtney B. Vance (American Crime Story: The People v O.J. Simpson), Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service) and Russell Crowe (The Nice Guys).
