Blade Runner 2049 doesn’t use green screens, says Ana De Armas

July 25, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Sci-fi sequel Blade Runner 2049 apparently doesn’t rely on green screens according to one of the film’s stars.

Film buffs and sci-fi fans around the world are eagerly anticipating the release of Denis Villeneuve’s sequel to Ridley Scott’s iconic Blade Runner. And news that the film doesn’t rely on green screens to pull off its stunning locations will surely please all.

This news comes the way of Ana de Armas who joined the rest of the film’s cast to promote the movie at this year’s Comic-Con.

In an interview with IGN she came across as extremely grateful for the effort put into doing things practically for the actors, saying the following:

“We had no green screens; everything was real. They built everything for real. The sets were alive. It was very organic; everything was happening in real time. Whatever was flying was flying for real. Whatever was moving — the rain… everything was real. We actually had nothing to imagine. It was a gift. Whoever decided to do this for real, thank you.”

You can see some of the gorgeous imagery the film is able to boast in the latest of trailer for the movie, available here.

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

Blade Runner 2049 is set for release on October 6th and sees Harrison Ford reprising the role of Rick Deckard alongside Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista, Jared Leto and Edward James Olmos.
