Jennifer Jason Leigh and Hugo Weaving to star in Melrose alongside Benedict Cumberbatch

July 13, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Variety is reporting that Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Hugo Weaving (Hacksaw Ridge) and Anna Madeley (The Crown) have signed on to star in Showtime and Sky Atlantic’s upcoming limited series Melrose, which is based upon the Patrick Melrose series of semi-autobiographical novels by Edward St. Aubyn.

Benedict Cumberbatch is producing the series, as well as starring as Patrick Melrose. Each episode will adapt one of the five novels, and the series “will encompass the saga of Melrose’s life, from his horribly abusive youth at the hands of his father (Weaving) and the mother who tacitly condones the behavior (Leigh), to the outrageous playboy he becomes and the struggles he endures to defy the damage of his own past.”

Edward Berger is directing the series, with all five episodes penned by David Nichols. It is being produced by former Channel 4 executive Michael Jackson’s Two Cities Television, as well as Cumberbatch’s SunnyMarch Productions.
