Rumour: Director Rupert Wyatt wanted for Green Lantern Corps

July 4, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Having brought David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel) on board as producer and co-writer with Justin Rhodes (Contract Killers) earlier this year, it now seems that Warner Bros. may have found a director for 2020’s DC Films release Green Lantern Corps.

According to The Hashtag Show, the studio has tapped Rise of the Planet of the Apes helmer Rupert Wyatt to direct the movie, which will feature the characters of Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Wyatt was previously attached to another comic book movie in 20th Century Fox’s Gambit, but dropped out of the project in order to direct his new film Captive State, which opens next month.

The site also offered up two very brief character breakdowns for the movie’s two lead Lanterns:

Hal Jordan: Caucasian, 39 – 50. A former military test pilot, he is now a veteran of the Green Lantern Corps.

John Stewart: African- American male, 21 – 30. Prior to joining the Green Lantern Corp, he was a sniper in the military.

While the source has been accurate on occasion, it’s also been wide of the mark with several reports, so we’ll need to file this one as a rumour for the time being. Perhaps we’ll get an official announcement of some sort at Comic-Con later this month…
