Warner Bros. developing animated Batman: Gotham by Gaslight movie

July 9, 2017 by Gary Collinson

A list of the special features for the upcoming animated feature Batman and Harley Quinn has arrived online via Reddit, revealing that Warner Bros.’ next DC Universe Animated Original Movie will be an adaptation of the Elseworlds story Batman: Gotham by Gaslight.

Published in 1989 from writer Brian Augustyn and artist Mike Mignola, Gotham by Gaslight is considered to be DC’s first Elseworlds story, and features a Victoria-era take on The Dark Knight. Here’s the official synopsis for the comic book:

“In an age of mystery and superstition, how would the people of Gotham react to a weird creature of the night, a bat-garbed vigilante feared by the guilty and the innocent alike? The very first Elseworlds tale re-imagines the Dark Knight detective in Victorian times and pits him against the infamous murderer Jack the Ripper.”

We’ll get our first look at Batman: Gotham by Gaslight when Batman and Harley Quinn hits DVD and Blu-ray on August 29th.
