Exclusive Interview: Actress Ashlee Macropoulos on This Just In and Glass Jaw

August 15, 2017 by Gary Collinson

In an exclusive interview, Flickering Myth sat down with Los Angeles-based actress Ashlee Marcopoulos to talk about acting and her hit Emmy-nominated TV show This Just In.

FM: Have you always wanted to be an actress? How did acting come about for you?

Acting has always been something that’s inside of me. Like many artists, I have always had a need to express something that could only be done through honing my craft. Which is ultimately shinning a light on the deepest parts of myself and seeing what’s really there.

FM: What and who inspired you to become an actress?

My mom really is the reason I have been able to keep up with acting. If it wasn’t for her taking me to classes as a little girl and driving me all over the place to follow my heart, I would have never realized how important acting was to me. She’s always been the most amazing role model in my life and has always told me I could do whatever I wanted to if I worked hard.

FM: Your most recent role is as Cassie in the TV show This Just In, which was recently nominated for an Emmy. Can you tell us a bit about the show, where you film and your character?

This Just In is filmed at the Associated Television International Studio in Los Angeles. The show follows Liz Sandler and her group of unlikely friends as they navigate high school dramas. Mt character Cassie is the show runner of sorts. She’s a strong sassy girl who takes the lead when things get difficult.

FM: Can you explain some of the highs and lows on set?

It always takes me a moment to get re-acclimated to early set times but, I just have to roll out of bed, dunk in the shower and then head to the hair and make up chair so its really not bad at all. After that everything else really is a high. I love being on set and working with my friends.

FM: The show has quite a diverse cast. What is it like working on set with some of the other actors? Does everyone get along?

I love working with everyone on set, we are all friends. We don’t get to see each other all of the time so working is always an exciting time to reconnect.

FM: Aside from the TV show, you also appear in the upcoming movie Glass Jaw. Can you tell us about your role in the feature-film?

Yes, so in Glass Jaw I play Zoe, the best friend of Ashley, played by Dana Melanie. My character is shy and in-nocent and relies on her friendship with Ashley very deeply. It is a boxing drama, produced by veteran Hollywood producer Steve Perry of True Romance and Lethal Weapon franchise fame. It is currently in post-production so I am super excited to see it when fully completed.

FM: Glass Jaw has an all-star cast. What was it like working with some of the other cast members?

The movie stars some incredible well-known actors like Jaime Camil (Jane the Virgin), Reynaldo Gallegos (Logan), Mark Rolston (The Departed), Vernon Wells (Commando) and even hip hop artist Boosie Badazz. Before my first scene I was honestly freaking out and Jaime Camil gave me some advice that helped me get grounded. He was amazing and I’m so grateful.

FM: Do you have a bucket list of actors or directors you would love to work with in the future? Any ac-tors you’d like to play alongside?

There are so many talented and amazing people in the industry it is hard to choose! It would be a dream come true to be a part of the Lena Dunham, Jenni Konner, Judd Apatow Clique! Or to work with Shane Black or Alejandro González Iñárritu just to name a few.

FM: Do you get to go to the cinema much? Any films you have enjoyed lately?

I loved Girls Trip I saw it with my mom while she was in town and we couldn’t stop laughing. I also enjoyed Amy Schumer’s Snatched and like everyone I thought Wonder Women was amazing. I love to support women kicking ass in the industry.

Our thanks to Ashlee for taking the time to do this interview, as well as Liz Rodriguez from EMR Media for helping us with the interview. Catch Ashlee in season 2 of This Just In on POP TV this September.
