Thor: Ragnarok impresses on Rotten Tomatoes with highest score of any Marvel Studios movie

October 20, 2017 by George Chrysostomou

Thor: Ragnarok is off to a thundering start with early reviews indicating that the newest addition to the Thor trilogy may just be the best yet [read our review here].

Some of that may be down to directer Taika Waititi, whose unique sense of humour and emphasis on Jack Kirby-influenced visuals plays on the successes of Guardians of the Galaxy whilst carving a niche that only Taika could fill. Revitalising the character, continuing the arc of the Hulk and bringing in brand new Marvel characters like Valkyrie, Ragnarok has the potential to catch lightning in a bottle.

And, based upon the film’s Rotten Tomatoes rating, this may not only be the best Thor to date, but also the best the MCU has to offer. Currently sitting at 98%, Ragnarok is ahead of the competition, with the closest competitor being the first Iron Man sitting at 95%. It’ll be interesting to see how those stats change from here, but Hemsworth’s latest outing as the God of Thunder may well prove to be Marvel’s most critically successful release yet.

Rotten Tomatoes currently pitches the blockbuster as: “Exciting, funny, and above all fun, Thor: Ragnarok is a colorful cosmic adventure that sets a new standard for its franchise and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk.

Thor: Ragnarok is being directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and features Marvel veterans Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk alongside Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge, Taika Waititi as Korg, Clancy Brown as Surtur, Rachel House as Topaz and Tadanobu Asano as Hogun. It is set for release on October 24th in the UK and November 3rd in the States.
