Ciaran Hinds discusses Justice League’s villain Steppenwolf

November 16, 2017 by Gary Collinson

We’re just a few short hours away from the release of Justice League, the latest chapter in the DC Extended Universe, which sees DC’s greatest heroes teaming up to save the world from the threat of Steppenwolf, played by former Game of Thrones star Ciaran Hinds. We’ve only had a few brief glimpses of the villain during the marketing campaign, but now the actor has been chatting about his character, and offering up details on his role in the film.

“I guess you’d call him a super-villain,” states Hinds. “He hails from the planet of Apokolips and he is the general of the Apokoliptian army who has come to take the world. For thousands of years he’s been in search of the Mother Boxes, which are all-powerful entities. He’s in search of all-power, and that’s his journey… His powers are physical rather than any form of mental agility. His real powers are wielded through his extraordinary axe weapon. When he chooses to use it, it creates mayhem and it decimated everything around it… He is not a fearful man at all, because he believes he can handle anything. He wishes to create fear – not just that people should be afraid of him, but I think he gets pleasure out of it. If you come from the planet Apokolips we’re all super beings – so Super Heroes are nothing.”

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League reunites Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Vulko, Kiersey Clemons (Dope) as Iris West, and Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf.
