Nightwing director promises a “wholly original” version of Dick Grayson

November 23, 2017 by Samuel Brace

The director of the in-development Nightwing movie has teased a “wholly original” take on the Dick Grayson character.

There are, as always, myriad superhero movies in development, from both Marvel and DC that fans around the world are eager to uncover details about. One of those very films is DC’s Nightwing, directed by Chris McKay.

On twitter recently, a fan had said that this version of the character would be too much like Robin’s role in McKay’s The LEGO Batman Movie, causing the director to respond with his goals for the character:

“This movie will be different than LEGO Batman, different than any other Gotham based film or TV show and will be a wholly original look at Robin/Dick Grayson. Don’t lose hope.”

The fan’s tweet originally came in the form of a reply to something McKay had said regarding the casting for Nightwing, rather interestingly saying that there will be an open casting call for the character:

“Re Nightwing Casting. Have an agent or manager submit your work. To the studio. An agent or manager protects you and also is an endorsement of your character. It means you take yourself and your career seriously… and so does someone else.

“There will be an open casting call but that is like Vegas odds for sure. Don’t leave your career up to chance. Believe in yourself. Bet on yourself. Get an agent or a manager.”

Casting a relative unknown might be the best way to go about filling such an important role, as opposed to one of the big name suggestions for the character. Regardless, it will be interesting to see just who McKay and the studio end up going for.
