Armie Hammer says he isn’t interested in a superhero role at present

December 4, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Given the number of times he’s been linked to Green Lantern (and Shazam), you’d be forgiven for thinking that Armie Hammer was desperate to get his foot in the DC Extended Universe door; however, it seems that isn’t the case, as the actor has told the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he isn’t looking to don the tights for a superhero role in the foreseeable future.

“I’m trying to answer in a way that’s not going to get me into trouble,” said Hammer. “Alright, fuck it, might as well go for it. I haven’t seen a superhero movie in a long time where I thought, ‘fuck, I wish I was in that’. If a great director came around and said ‘I have this idea’… but at the end of the day, no one’s asked and I’m not going out of my way to do it… For me there’s not like a huge rush. Would I love to own a huge house? Yes, for sure. But at the end of the day I’m more interested now in my artistic credibility.”

As it happens, Hammer has had one brush with the DC universe, having been cast as Batman in Mad Max director George Miller’s abandoned Justice League Mortal – although he recently said that he was glad that the project never moved forward, as “I wouldn’t want to watch a 19-year-old Batman.”

What do you make of Hammer’s remarks? Is there a superhero role out there that you think he’s the right fit for? Let us know in the comments…
