Wellington Paranormal: New details on Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s What We Do in the Shadows spin-off

December 21, 2017 by Matt Rodgers

After the success of vampire mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows, which is easily one of the funniest films of the past decade, we were already eagerly anticipating the Rhys Darby-headlined lycanthrope sequel, We’re Wolves. Now it appears that following his Thor: Ragnarok stint, Taika Waititi has caught the cinematic universe bug, which means not only are we going to get a US Shadows spin-off, but production is well under way on Wellington Paranormal; a six part series following the oblivious cops from What We Do In the Shadows.

Speaking to Stuff, Jemaine Clement revealed that the series will follow What We Do in the Shadows‘ police partners Mike Minogue and Karen O’Leary, as they hunt ghosts, werewolves and possessions on the mean streets of Wellington.

He went on to reveal that some of the werewolves from the original movie will appear, so this could act as a stepping stone to We’re Wolves, and we’d also get to see a familiar vampire, rumoured to be Cori Gonzalez-Macuer’s Nick.

There is no news in terms of the international broadcast details, but Wellington Paranormal‘s six 30-minute season 1 episodes are due to air on TVNZ 2 in mid-2018.
