Robert Rodriguez teams with Kong: Skull Island scribe for sci-fi thriller Hypnotic

February 22, 2018 by Gary Collinson

THR is reporting that filmmaker Robert Rodriguez is teaming up with Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island screenwriter Max Borenstein for the original sci-fi thriller Hypnotic, which is being produced by Studio 8.

Although plot details are being kept under wraps, Hypnotic is described as “a grounded cop thriller with sci-fi elements”, and the hope is that the project can serve as the launch pad for a new franchise.

Rodriguez is currently in post-production on another sci-fi project, the James Cameron-produced Alita: Battle Angel, which is set for release this December, and has also wrapped production on a VR series entitled The Limit starring Michelle Rodriguez. Borenstein meanwhile has scripted by Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong, and is also working on developing one of HBO’s numerous Game of Thrones spinoffs.
