Alex Ross recreates Action Comics #1 cover in celebration of Superman’s anniversary

April 1, 2018 by Gary Collinson

In celebration of the 80th anniversary of Superman – and the upcoming Action Comics #1000 – Syfy Wire has teamed up to acclaimed artist Alex Ross to offer a rather stunning limited edition litho entitled ‘More Powerful Than a Locomotive’, which recreates the cover to Action Comics #1. Check it out here…

“Most people coming to comics realize the historical importance of Superman,” states Ross. “But I’ve always loved very specific traits of the character, and in fact, very specific versions. When I saw some reprints of the oldest comics with him, from the ’40s, I immediately fell in love with the art style from then. He looked very serious, very rough and ready… a character built for the era of the Second World War. I like to connect with that earliest version of him, to bring him back to those roots.”

Here’s the original cover for comparison…

The lithograph will be available in limited quantities at C2E2 in Chicago next weekend, followed by a full online debut on April 18th, marking the original launch date of Action Comics #1. Join the wait list here.
