Eva Green and Ed Skrein line up for politically charged sci-fi A Patriot

April 27, 2018 by Tom Beasley

Eva Green and Ed Skrein are among the stars in place for sci-fi thriller A Patriot, which is set to depict an authoritarian state separated from a world in chaos due to climate change and scarce resources.

Deadline reports that Oscar winner Kathy Bates is also on board for the film, which is being directed by British filmmaker Dan Pringle (K-Shop), who also wrote the script with Toby Rushton. Rushton has experience in the sci-fi realm, having worked as a script editor on Gareth Edwards’s Monsters.

Green is set to play Border Corp Captain Kate Jones, who is charged with protecting the purity of the population in a state walled off from the turbulent rest of the world. She is devoted to her job, until a chance discovery threatens her faith in the authorities.

Pringle is a director familiar with a satirical approach to genre material, with K-Shop featuring a kebab shop owner who turns vigilante in frustration at the culture of binge drinking and drug use in the seaside town where he lives and works.

A Patriot is currently in pre-production and is set to launch world sales at the Cannes Film Festival.
