How to Train Your Dragon 3 gets an official title, will end the series

April 21, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation are set to unleash the third movie in the How to Train Your Dragon series next March, and the studios have announced that the threequel is going by the title How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, and will serve as the end of the film series.

Dean DeBlois is back in the director’s chair for The Hidden World, and he’ll be joined by returning voice actors Jay Baruchel, Cate Blanchett, Gerard Butler and Craig Ferguson.

According to Dark Horizons, the story “sees Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) fulfilling his dream of creating a peaceful dragon utopia and Toothless’ discovery of an untamed, elusive mate draws the Night Fury away. When danger mounts at home and Hiccup’s reign as chief is tested, both dragon and rider must make impossible decisions to save their kind.”

Loosely based on Cressida Cowell’s book series, the How to Train Your Dragon franchise launched in 2010, with the first movie grossing almost $500 million worldwide. The sequel performed even better with $621.5 million in receipts, while the spinoff animated series DreamWorks Dragons ran for six seasons, coming to an end this February.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is set for release on March 1st 2019.
