Dwayne Johnson wanted for G.I. Joe 3 as rumoured plot and character details emerge

May 6, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Back in December, Paramount Pictures and Hasbro announced a March 27th 2020 release date for G.I. Joe, which was assumed to be a reboot of the franchise after the mixed critical and commercial results of the first two instalments, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

Well, according to a report over at That Hashtag Show, the third film is not a reboot, but rather a continuation of the series going by the title G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant, and the studio is hoping to entice Dwayne Johnson into reprising his Retaliation role of Roadblock to lead the new film.

If rumours are to be believed, Ever Vigilant will apparently see Roadblock assembling a new team of Joes to prevent terrorists from launching a dark matter WMD which will turn its targets into dust. Cobra Commander will make a cameo appearance, but the main antagonists will be the Crimson Twins Tomax and Xamot.

The script reportedly features the return of Snake-Eyes (Ray Park), Scarlet (Rachel Nichols) and General Joe Colton (Bruce Willis), while new characters are said to include Vorona, Wild Bill, Barbecue, Doc, Keel-Haul, General Flagg and Dr. Adele Burkhart.

It should be pointed out that the rumour is unconfirmed at present, and there’s no word as to whether the ever-busy Johnson is up for a return, or if he could fit the project into his ever busy schedule. Still, let us know in the comments below if you’re interested in a G.I. Joe sequel, or would prefer a full reboot of the series…
