Paul Giamatti to go on Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Johnson

May 3, 2018 by Ricky Church

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed Billions actor Paul Giamatti has joined Disney’s Jungle Cruise, starring alongside Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt. Giamatti and Johnson previously co-starred together in the disaster film San Andreas.

Giamatti will portray a crusty harbormaster in the film. Jesse Plemons (Game Night) and Edgar Ramirez (The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story) are set to be the film’s villains. Ramirez’s character will have a conquistador background who leads a rival German expedition while Plemons role has yet to be revealed.

The movie, an adaptation of the Disney theme park ride, is being directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows) and sees Johnson as a riverboat captain cursed with immortality who takes Lily Houghton (Emily Blunt) down river on her quest to search for the Tree of Life. Jack Whitehall (Bad Education) is also on board as Blunt’s brother.

Jungle Cruise is set to begin shooting this summer, with Collet-Serra directing from a script by Michael Green (Logan), J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay (Star Trek Beyond, Godzilla vs. Kong). Expect it to arrive some time in 2019.
