Cary Fukunaga to direct Bond 25, release pushed back to 2020

September 20, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Following on from Danny Boyle’s departure due to creative differences, Eon has now announced that True Detective helmer Cary Fukunaga is set to direct Bond 25.

“We are delighted to be working with Cary,” said Eon’s Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. “His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure.”

In addition to the first season of True Detective, Fukunaga’s credits include the Netflix series Maniac starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, as well as the feature film Beasts of No Nation starring Idris Elba.

Several directors had been rumoured to be in contention for Bond 25 including Yann Demange (White Boy Rick), David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water), Jean-Marc Vallee (Big Little Lies), Edgar Wright (Baby Driver), S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones) and Bart Layton (American Animals) .
