Mark Hamill confirms that the force killed Luke in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

October 23, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Mark Hamill has confirmed that Luke died from using too much of the force in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

There’s no question that one of the most memorable moments of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and indeed the entire new trilogy so far, was Luke’s death after using a huge force power towards the end of the film.

Projecting his presence to fight Kylo Ren and provide a distraction for the Resistance, Luke then seemingly passed away. Some fans have debated exactly what transpired here but now Mark Hamill has confirmed himself via Twitter that it was the force that did Luke in:

“THE FORCE KILLED LUKE. You have to acknowledge the irony in his fate. Almost like an addict that kicked his habit cold-turkey, remained clean for decades, only to re-use just once & then, tragically, overdoses.”

As you can see above, Hamill use a panel from The Last Jedi comic showing Luke’s death of Ahch-To to accompany his tweet.

In Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of The Force Awakens join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi sees returning cast members Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix), Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke), Peter Mayhew and Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Tim Rose (Admiral Ackbar), Mike Quinn (Nien Nunb) and Warwick Davis joined by new additions Jimmy Vee (Pan) as R2-D2, Kelly Marie Tran (Ladies Like Us) as Rose, Benicio Del Toro (Guardians of the Galaxy) as DJ and Laura Dern (Jurassic Park)
