Antoine Fuqua (The Equalizer, The Magnificent Seven) has signed on to produce and potentially direct The Devil Soldier, an adaptation of the book of the same name by The Alienist author Caleb Carr.
The historical action epic will follow Frederick Townsend Ward, an American outlaw-turned-soldier of fortune who is best known for his military service in China during the Taiping Rebellion.

Fuqua is coming off the back of his latest Denzel Washington collaboration on The Equalizer 2, and has recently wrapped filming on the documentary What’s My Name: Muhammad Ali. Next up for the filmmaker is another documentary, American Dream/American Knightmare, which explores the life of Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight.
