DC Universe’s Stargirl series rounds out its cast

February 23, 2019 by Gary Collinson

DC Universe has announced that it has rounded out the core cast of its live-action superhero show Stargirl with the addition of Amy Smart (Justified), Neil Jackson (Westworld), Hunter Sansone (Drama Drama), and Trae Romano (Robbie) as series regulars.

Stargirl sees Brec Bassinger (Bella and the Bulldogs) leading the cast in the title role of high school teenager turned superhero Courtney Whitmore. Smart is set to portray Courtney’s mother Barbara Whitmore, with Romano as Mike Dugan, Courtney’s stepbrother, and son to Barbara’s new husband Pat Dugan (Luke Wilson). Details on Jackson and Sansone’s roles are being kept under wraps.

Also featuring in the cast of the DC series are Joel McHale (Community) as Starman, Lou Ferrigno Jr. (S.W.A.T.) as Hourman, Brian Stapf (The Walking Dead) as Wildcat, Henry Thomas (The Haunting of Hill House) as Dr. Mid-Nite, Joy Osmanski (The Santa Clarita Diet) as Tigress, Neil Hopkins (Matador) as Sportsmaster, Nelson Lee (Mulan) as Dragon King, Meg DeLacey (The Fosters) as Cindy Burman, and Anjelika Washington (Young Sheldon), Yvette Monreal (Matador), Christopher James Baker (True Detective) and Jake Austin Walker (Rectify) in undisclosed roles.

Stargirl will follow the story of Courtney Whitmore (Bassinger) who is a smart, athletic and above all else kind girl. This high school teenager’s seemingly perfect life hits a major speedbump when her mother gets married and her new family moves from Los Angeles, California to Blue Valley, Nebraska. Struggling to adapt to a new school, make new friends and deal with a new step-family, Courtney discovers her step-father has a secret; he used to be the sidekick to a superhero. “Borrowing” the long-lost hero’s cosmic staff, Courtney becomes the unlikely inspiration for an entirely new generation of superheroes.
