Doug Jones turned down a cameo in the Hellboy reboot

February 24, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

Doug Jones, who portrayed the character of Abe Sapien in Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army, has revealed to THR that he was offered a cameo appearance in Lionsgate’s upcoming reboot, but had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts.

“There was a chance that a cameo might have happened, but not as things progressed,” states Jones. “Reboot means recasting, and I’m told this first reboot does not have anybody in it from the original film. I received an offer to do a cameo, but I was deeply immersed in Star Trek: Discovery when that offer came in, so I couldn’t do it.”

The Hellboy reboot sees Stranger Things’ David Harbour taking over the title role previously portrayed by Ron Perlman, while the character of Abe Sapien is not expected to make an appearance in the new film.

Suddenly caught in a clash between the supernatural and the human, Hellboy is now hell-bent on stopping Nimue without triggering the end of the world.

Hellboy is set for release on April 12th 2019 sees Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones) directing Stranger Thingsstar David Harbour in the lead role alongside Ian McShane (American Gods) as Professor Bruttenholm, Sasha Lane (American Honey) as Alice Monaghan, Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil) as the Queen of Blood, Daniel Dae Kim (Hawaii Five-O) as Major Ben Daimio and Penelope Mitchell (The Vampire Diaries) as Ganeida.
