Gwyneth Paltrow to exit MCU after Avengers: Endgame

February 20, 2019 by Gary Collinson

It’s expected that Avengers: Endgame will be the final outing for some of our favourite heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the likes of Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) all out of contract with Marvel Studios come the release of the Phase Three-ending blockbuster.

Well, it seems we may be set for another swansong, as Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed to Variety that she plans on stepping away from the MCU after more than a decade of playing Pepper Potts – although she is open to potential cameos further down the line.

“I mean, I’m a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point,” said Paltrow. “I feel very lucky that I did it, because I actually got talked into it. I was friends with [Iron Man director] Jon Favreau. It was such a wonderful experience making the first Iron Man and then to watch how important it has become to fans. I feel honored to be a part of something that people are so passionate about. Of course, if they said, ‘Can you come back for a day?,’ I will always be there if they need me.”

After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War, the universe is in ruins due to the efforts of the Mad Titan, Thanos. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers must assemble once more in order to undo Thanos’ actions and restore order to the universe once and for all, no matter what consequences may be in store.

Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts), Evangeline Lilly (The Wasp), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Jon Favreau (Happy Hogan), Tilda Swinton (The Ancient One) and Frank Grillo (Crossbones), as well as Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolvervine) and Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why).
