Westworld’s Lisa Joy to direct Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson in Reminiscence

February 1, 2019 by Gary Collinson

In news coming out of Sundance, Deadline is reporting that The Greatest Showman stars Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson are finalising deals to star in Reminiscence, a sci-fi thriller which has been scripted by Westworld’s Lisa Joy and will also mark her directorial debut.

Reminiscence will take place in a near-future Miami, where much of the city is submerged underwater due to global warming, and follows private detective Nick Bannister (Jackman) who deals in recapturing vivid cherished memories for clients. He falls in love with one such client, a mysterious woman played by Ferguson, who suddenly goes missing, forcing him to unpack her past in order to find her.

“It has been a labor of love and also vision,” said Joy of the project. “I know exactly what I want this to be, including all of the action set pieces, and turning Miami into a sunken world. Working on Westworld has been an incredible experience in learning to make something with the scope of a feature on a TV timeline with a budget nowhere near what you would expect for a feature film equivalent.”

Filming on Reminiscence is slated to begin in October, allowing Joy and Jonathan Nolan to complete work on the third season of HBO’s Westworld.
