4 New TV Shows to Look Forward to in 2019

March 21, 2019 by Samuel Brace

The Mandalorian

The first ever live-action Star-Wars series is bound to draw excitement and The Mandalorian – set to debut in 2019 on the new Disney+ streaming service – has done just that. Starring Pedro Pascal as a bounty hunter following in the footsteps of the legendary Boba and Jango Fett, The Mandalorian is set during the largely unexplored time between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. With a top-notch cast and crew at is disposal and a whole lot of cash, Star Wars fans rightly have pretty high expectations for what could be something very special.

Too Old to Die Young

The films of indie visionary Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) are nearly always visually stunning and rather disturbing affairs. The good news for his fans is that his first foray into TV with Amazon’s Too Old to Die Young looks to be more of the same. Starring Miles Teller, the series tells a twisted tale of a grieving policeman, trapped in a criminal underworld replete with hitmen, assassins, and Yakuza soldiers. Throw in a gang of killer teens and lots of neon lights, and you’ve got the most Refn project you can imagine. It will certainly be worth checking out later in 2019.

As per the caveat at the top, the above shows may very well turn out to be duds and other new series could be the ones we look back on in a year’s time as 2019’s finest debut offerings. Whatever the case may be, there will surely be a handful of excellent new series to enjoy in the coming year, accompanying cemented favourites such as Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Better Call Saul, and the at last returning True Detective. Let’s meet back here in about 12 months to see what 2019 managed to impress us with most in the medium of television.
