Aquaman producer doesn’t think there needs to be any more Justice League-style team-ups from DC

March 7, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Peter Safran, a producer for Aquaman, thinks that there is no need for future DC team-up movies in the style of Justice League.

The DCEU has been a tale of two halves. WB first tried to imitate the MCU, going after big superhero team-ups, which didn’t quite pan out for them. Now, however, they have found much success (commercially and critically) by focusing on individual films that aren’t necessarily building towards anything bigger.

One man who thinks that this should the way forward for the considerable future is Peter Safran, one of the producers for Aquaman. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Safran said there is no real need for more team-up movies:

“I think that when you’re making really strong standalone movies, there’s really no need to bring them together. You want to give these characters room to breathe and live, and tell their stories.”

This approach certainly seems to be working for DC at the moment with the likes of Wonder Woman and Aquaman. It will be interesting to see how Shazam! is received and if DC sticks to crafting standalone films.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman”, starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime — one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be … a king.”

Aquaman is directed by James Wan (The Conjuring) and stars Jason Momoa as the titular hero, reprising his role from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, along with Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Dr. Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Ludi Lin as Murk, Michael Beach as Jesse Kane, Djimon Hounsou as the Fisherman King, Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin, Otis Dhanji as a young Arthur Curry, Julie Andrews as Karathen and Graham McTavish as King Atlan.
