March 6, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

Hulu has released a trailer for its true crime anthology series The Act. Season one is based on the true story of Gypsy Blanchard (Joey King), who with the help of her boyfriend Nick (Calum Worthy), murdered her mother (played by Patricia Arquette) after suffering from years of abuse at her hands; watch the trailer here…

The Act is a seasonal anthology series that tells startling, stranger-than-fiction true crime stories. Season One follows Gypsy Blanchard (Joey King), a girl trying to escape the toxic relationship she has with her overprotective mother, Dee Dee (Patricia Arquette). Her quest for independence opens a Pandora’s box of secrets, one that ultimately leads to murder. The series stars Patricia Arquette (Dee Dee Blanchard), Joey King (Gypsy Blanchard), Chloë Sevigny (Mel), AnnaSophia Robb (Lacey) and Calum Worthy (Nick). Nick Antosca and Michelle Dean co-created the series based on Dean’s original Buzzfeed article and serve as executive producers alongside Greg Shephard and Britton Rizzio. The Act is produced by Universal Content Productions.

The Act premieres on March 20th on Hulu and features a cast that also includes AnnaSophia Robb, Chloe Sevigny, and Steve Coulter.
